My August Julep Maven Box

I pulled a Britney, and OOPS…

I did it again.

I totally forgot to skip my August Julep Maven box.
But I’m not going to lie, this time I’m really happy that I did!

One reason, being the Brave Pretty campaign.

The other? What I got in my box.

Mari, a pretty holographic pink and Sophia, a brilliant bright blue, alone made the box worthwhile.

But after trying baked blush, I was maybe a little too excited to try this Skip the Brush blush crayon.

It’s so easy to apply and great to bring with you in your purse, because you don’t need a makeup brush to use it! Just apply directly and blend with your fingers.

Julep Maven boxes almost always include a little treat which is usually candy, but this month, they switched it up with tiny metallic temporary hand tattoos!

I will most definitely be rocking these.

Another perk?

I now have enough Jules to get the September box for free!

You can sign up to be a Julep Maven here.

My April 2015 Julep Maven Box…Oops!

Remember when I said I wouldn’t be getting my Julep Maven box for a while? Well, I may have forgotten to skip this month and was really upset with myself. That is until I got my box, or rather, until I tried the beauty product included.

Paradise Collection

April 2015 Julep Maven Box

I have so much nail polish that, according to the manfriend and my family, I don’t need more. I say, I don’t need that kind of negativity. And that’s what my bank account tells me. I half joke…
But, what I do need is an endless supply of Don’t Leave Your Brows At Home in rich brown.
I have shared almost way too many brow products that I use. That’s because I really go through them. I like trying different ones, because the only way to know which one you like best is to try them all. Again, half joke.
But seriously, even when I don’t really put on a lot of makeup, I do my eyebrows.
Don't Leave Your Brows At Home in rich brown Don't Leave Your Brows At Home
This is my favorite, yes, favorite brow product to date. Minimal effort for eyebrows on fleek. I mean it.
And the polish colors are two that I know I’ll be using this summer. One of them is named Drew. (In case you didn’t know, the manfriend’s name is Andrew and thanks to all the college students we’ve worked with I call him Drew more often than he probably likes. Also, my niece and youngest nephew call him Uncle Drew. The other three refer to him as their aunt’s boyfriend…) Plus you can’t really go wrong with pink.

Next month I’ll go back to skipping, and set a reminder in my calendar so I don’t forget. And now I know what I’ll be using all my Jules Points for!

In case you were wondering, this month’s candy was the Everlasting Gobstopper.

Not Black Nail Colors

Black is one of my most favorite nail polish colors.

Black Nail Polish

I am trying to switch up my mani game, so I’ve been sporting not black nail colors.
And by this I don’t so much mean yellow, pink, red, but dark colors that are dark, which I find just perfect for fall, but not black.

Not Black Nail Color

My three current not black favorites are Essie in WickedOPI in Nein! Nein! Ok Fine, and Sally Hansen in Dark Huemoor.

In case you were wondering, Julep in Jet is my all time favorite black nail polish.
Do you know of any other not black nail colors that I should check out? Let me know!

I fully intended to skip my Julep Maven Box this month. Not because I don’t love it, but because I have A LOT of nail polish + not so much money. That being said, I am SO glad that I didn’t!

The Bombshell colors were just to die for…

And a while back I got the Beach Tonic, loved the scent, loved the product, HATED the bottle. I couldn’t get it to spray consistently without have to pull the nozzle up after EVERY. SINGLE. SPRAY.

So, even though it was probably just a bad bottle (I also got the Sea Salt Hair Spray, in the same style bottle and it worked just fine), I didn’t use it nearly as much as I would have liked to.  This month the featured item was the Bare Body Milk, that smelled just like the Beach Tonic, but in lotion form. I die.

Now I get to rock the scent that I enjoyed with the hassle. Plus, it works really well!

I am one happy chica.

May Julep Maven Box

Like many makeup and beauty hoarders, I have a lot of nail polish.Name just about any color or finish and I’m pretty sure own it.

And yet, I still find that I do not have enough.Talk about first world problems…

I need my nail polish fix!

Bombshell Julep Maven

If you’re anything like me, then Julep is the answer. By becoming a Julep Maven, you get a monthly mani in a box.

Julep Add-Ons

Unlike some other subscription boxes, with the Julep Maven Box you have the option to not only skip a month if you need (which I do from time to time, because, well, shopping happens + I got bills to pay), but also the option to  gift your box to a friend.

May Bombshell Julep Maven Box

What makes the May box so special, is that it included the new Julep Plié Wand. This wand take the theory of writing with a pen or pencil and applies it to the mani, giving you more steady control as you paint your nails. This goes against my logic for leg shaving, but I can attest that it works. And well. Very well. I dig it.

Plie Wand

Right handed and not at all ambidextrous? Not a problem! After attaching the magnetic wand to your nail polish and paint your left hand, the plié wand twists to rest on your hand so you can stably paint your right hand.

Believe it or not, my right hand actually came out better than my left for once!

Meet Your Match Kit

Meet Your Match Kit (open)

I majorly heart Sephora.

I majorly heart trying new products.

Each time Sephora comes out with a new collection or kit I can’t fight the feeling of needing to have it.

This was very much so the case with the Sephora Favorites Meet Your Match Kit.

There was nothing that I disliked about this kit, but I want to stress that these are minis. Samples. Not full-sized products. A lot of the reviews were from those that were disappointed with the size, so I was prepared to be a little disappointed. I wasn’t. In fact, I was very pleased with it.

A few notes:

The “purple” nail polish is really thick. I only painted one coat and was afraid that two coats wouldn’t dry without me managing to smudge them, and the color was bold enough to look as though I’d painted two coats.

The “coral” nail polish was a bit thin and even after two coats, I could still see through it, but I didn’t mind as it wasn’t too noticeable…

Velvet Nails

Velvet nails. Sounds interesting, right? Well, in my January Birchbox a while back, I got Nail Rock by Rock Beauty London in Velvet Burgundy.

The application was simple enough, just two coats of polish, then dip. The results? Soft and fuzzy! Very cool.

20140312-215503.jpg

If you’re not adventurous when it comes to beauty, I’m not really sure how’d you feel about it. Otherwise, this is worth a try. The velvet effect doesn’t last that long, mine started to fade after a couple of days, but the color shows through so it’s hardly noticeable.

I really wish there was a way you could feel this via the internet right now! Think it’s something you’d consider trying? Velvet too creepy? It also comes in glitter!

Mani and a Magazine: Mellow Yellow

Daylight savings was just what I needed. Bring on the sunlight, longer days, and warmer weather! Can’t wait for spring, so I went with a yellow effect mani and a bright and cheery magazine.

20140310-152450.jpg

Instyle Magazine is one of my favorites and I used OPI Nail Lacquer in Alpine Snow as my base and OPI Sheer Tints Top Coat in I’m Never Amberrassed. Both were purchased from the Birchbox Shop.

Sheer Tints are also perfect for creating an easy ombré look.

Have you tried Sheer Tints yet? What do you think? Thoughts on the ombré nail trend?

Mani and a Magazine: The Classics

When deciding on what color to paint your nails, you can never go wrong with red. Likewise, when picking a magazine, you can never go wrong with Vogue. These are the classics.

Picking out which shade of red may be another story, but I went with Butter London’s Ladybird (Because it’s my newest red polish, and it matches this month’s cover of Vogue).
