Something New: Watercolors + Calligraphy

After Alt Summit, I really wanted to at the very least attempt to get back to the heart of why I started blogging.

Simply put, I like to learn + to want to push myself to try new things.

At Alt Melissa Esplin hosted a DIY booth and shared some pointers about calligraphy. I chatted with Christa of Beatrice Clay and decided that I would redeem my Bing Rewards points for Amazon gift cards, which I used to purchase Modern Calligraphy.

i love you more

Since then, I have been practicing calligraphy and painting with watercolors daily. (The two arts kind of go hand in hand, so I figured why not.)

My work is pretty rough, but since I’m only just starting out, I don’t mind it so much. I find the process rather meditative + thoroughly enjoy it, so it’s totes worth it!

Do you have a summer hobby or have you started learning something new recently? Would love some ideas of what to look into for my next something new!

  1. YAY! Twinsies! I am loving MOdern Calligraphy too! No lie, the first day was hard but I am long forward to being able to write my name at the very least by month’s end. I can’t wait to see what you create! I took a great beginner watercolor class on Skillshare last summer with the ubber talented Paper Fashion; she gave good feedback and was very engaging. Check it out on Skillshare (I have an affiliate link on my blog too) **Hugs and HI5s**

    1. I love Paper Fashion, but had no idea there was a class on Skillshare! I’m going to have to take it, I feel so clueless when I paint. I can’t wait to see your work too, glad I’m not doing this alone! And I can’t do a B to save my life, so my name may not happen, at least not capitalized… xx

  2. Again – very cool!
I want you to make a placard that reads #bestteamever that I can give to my teammates. Maybe on a heart cuz I do love them all. Can you think of another image??

My summer pastime is word puzzle books, reading. And playing board games with my children. It would just be nice if someone let me win just once.

    1. We can brainstorm more this weekend, but that sounds like a great idea, except you shouldn’t comment here, so they don’t see it. Oh, they don’t read my blog? Why the heck not?! #worstfmilever
