PinkBlush Olive Green Trench Coat

Each month myself and four other boss blogger babes have been styling the same piece of clothing and since we all look and think differently from each other (hair, religion, location, skin, size, height, style…all of the above), you’ll get five totally different looks. That means you’ll get to see what I style, on other body types so you can find something that is best for you!

This month we all proved that neutrals can go with any piece to make a flawless outfit. We also proved that neutrals don’t have to be boring to look good. I personally have been wearing a ton of Madewell lately (in part because I work there, but mostly due to my love of their jeans), and I wasn’t going to change that now!

For me, the basis of a feel good outfit are feel good pieces that pop with out combating each other.

I love that the olive green color of this PinkBlush trench coat that Deidre, Kaylynn, JacqueLauryn, and I all styled, goes so well with stripes and a fun animal print. Knowing that it can also look just as fabulous with a little black dress makes it a closet must have!

After reading Victoria Beckham’s book and how she believed Ugg boots were something that should never be worn outside the house, I tried to make more of an effort to consciously curate my outfits before stepping foot outside.

While I will wear Uggs in public, you will not see me with my hair tied up or in sweats with holes. Not too long about if the subject matter had come up, I would have said the same about pajamas. But I decided to give the silk pajama shirt trend a try.

Sadly, I waited a little too long to jump onboard and missed out on a super cute burgundy one from J.Crew. I have my eyes peel for one in my size on Poshmark. Until then, I am practically living in this navy Madewell top.

Not going to lie, I’ve also slept in it!

And of course I have to try to play the matching game, by pairing this outfit with my Jord watch and my absolute favorite pair of jeans.

Believe it or not, this skirt is actually a dress! This month, Deidre, Kaylynn, JacqueLauryn and I have partnered with Lettie Boutique to each style one of their fabulous floral midi dresses our own way. Since New England has already reached the point where layers are a requirement, add a warm, soft sweater was a must!

The dress is so comfortable that I didn’t want to take away from that. And the print is beautiful, so I made sure to keep the top both simple and neutral.

Dresses are nice, and when you can pull it off as a skirt (for warmth purposes or otherwise) that’s definitely a major win. It might even be possible to rock this dress as a shirt, making it a 3 in 1 piece, which is extremely beneficial for a minimalist or capsule wardrobe.

And for Black Friday, the entire shop will be 20% off with the code BLACK20, with free shipping on all orders, plus the first 50 orders will also get a free gift. There will also be doorbusters, stocking stuffers, and some FLASH sales starting at 6am MST on Friday morning that will run through Monday!

Femininity and feminine details aren’t really something that come rushing to the front of my mind when thinking about my personal style. However, I am still actively working on defining my style. One way to figure out if you like something is to try it. The same goes for defining you style.

When the latest Madewell et Sézane collection launched I’m going to be honest. I didn’t love it.

Not that I hated it, I just didn’t feel like it was for me. However, there was one piece that I kind of thought I maybe wanted. A sweater. But it was very feminine.

Fast forward to seeing that same swearer in store and trying it on (on two separate occasions). I knew I liked it, so I bought it. Even though I wasn’t sure how I was going to pull off styling it while being true to how I like to dress.

Jeans were an obvious choice. They allowed me to branch out a little, while remaining comfortable. So comfortable, in fact, that I even added heels to top it off.

A special thanks to Capewell + Co. and AMI Clubwear
for the perfect accessories!

A Watch That Goes with Denim + Giveaway

Jord Wooden Watches jord-watch-outfit Ode to Navy

As a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl, I own a lot of denim. While I consider denim a neutral (not unlike leopard print), sometimes it’s nice to wear it with something that actually matches.

Can you think of better (or really easier) way to match than with accessories? Because I cannot.

My Jord wood watch is brown (another neutral), with a navy blue face, which goes perfectly with all kinds of denim washes.

Here I wore it with other navy blue things I owned. Vintage inspired jeans (that will definitely have to be a part of my next attempt at a capsule wardrobe), and a navy striped turtleneck tee, along with a navy blue cardigan. Almost like an ode to denim.

Not as crazy about denim as I am? That’s totally fine. I’m sure that there’s a Jord wood watch for you. You can enter to win a Jord wood watch for yourself here!

How to Wear a Maxi Skirt

I don’t know why, but I find maxi skirts to be a style challenge. Dresses are easy. You pretty much just throw them on and go. But a maxi skirt is harder. It requires a little more thought.

Pleated maxi skirts were very on trend, but I wasn’t having it. I wanted one, I just didn’t think I’d wear it. So when approached to partner with SheIn, I knew I wanted to challenge myself to give one of their pleated maxi skirts a try!

Now, you know I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I turned to Pinterest for inspiration, finding J.Crew’s aesthetic extremely helpful. Can you tell much?

Each of these three looks are ones that I felt meshed well with my jeans and a t-shirt style. My fear of looking silly in a bright green maxi skirt, were put to rest by keeping it fairly casual.

My favorite outfit being the one with the white tee and jean jacket, which is great when you need to layer for those cooler, but still not cold, days.

Which of these looks is your favorite? How would you wear this pleated maxi skirt?

As much as I love summer, fall fashion is worth the drop in temperature. The weather isn’t the only thing changing, though.  I’ve been up to a lot!

Throwing out expired makeup, and donating clothes that I don’t wear, inspired by my recent failed attempt at a capsule wardrobe.

But my love of shopping is still very very strong. I try to be more responsible by shopping secondhand first. And for so many reasons.

I save money and, to an extent, the environment. I love it! And my new to me Madewell clothes from thredUP. For under $50 I was able to get three pairs of like new jeans and a nice cozy sweater. That’s literally less than half of a pair of brand new jeans!

If you’ve never used thredUP before, here’s a little incentive, save even more by using code YHJ75 for $30 off your purchase of $75 or more, or WQA50 for $50 off your purchase of $125 or more!

There are times when doing my hair is something I just can’t do. Like, legitimately. Not even a ponytailMy Wig Wardrobe is the solution. Celebrities have turned to wigs for ages, and today most beauty YouTubers do as well. Whether you’re looking to cover up a bad hair day, switch up your look or protect your natural hair, you need a wig. Or, even better, a wig wardrobe!

I’ve tried a number of subscription services (including Ditto for these sunglasses), and My Wig Wardrobe is the first online wig subscription program.

In addition to celebrity inspired hair looks, all subscribers also gain access to a private Facebook group, where the owner, Yondel Gilfurt, shares beauty hacks and hair industry secrets! Since I know next to nothing about wigs, I love that Yondel does live videos explaining how to make them look natural. She also shows you how to care for your wigs. Which is important so you can wear it again and again.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Started from the Bottom

Fall Capsule JeansFall Capsule Shoes 1 Fall Capsule Shoes 2

Building a capsule wardrobe is an idea the I’ve toyed with for a while now. Pinterest (and lack of closet space) makes the minimalist approach to style seem very appealing.

The concept of a capsule wardrobe is that you limit your wardrobe to a few key pieces. Mixing and matching what you have to maximize outfit potential without the stress or overwhelm that comes from having too many options. Most capsule wardrobes I’ve come across have consisted of 30 items. I opted for 38 pieces, because I felt too restricted with anything less than that. You, however, can select whatever number of pieces you feel comfortable with. Keep in mind that less is more.

For the month of September, I decided (with a little inspiration) to simplify my closet and give a capsule wardrobe challenge a try. Each week I’ll share some of my favorite looks on Instagram using the hashtag #tspcapsule. But, make sure to check back here to see them all!

To start building my capsule wardrobe, I started from the bottom. Literally. I’m a jeans girl and don’t really wear a ton of other bottoms, so I selected four pairs of jeans and a simple black pencil skirt.

My favorite template can be found on the blog Selective Potential. I definitely gave it a Twenty Something Plus twist, but have something to use as a guideline was very helpful!

There are tons of good examples on Pinterest and if you need a little (or a lot) of outfit inspiration, check out Un-Fancy, a minimalist fashion blog.
