Quick and Easy DIY Lip Scrub

I have lips that are on the more full side and if I don’t exfoliate them with a lip scrub, gross things happen.

Even though it is now March, it is still very much so winter. I know this because I’ve needed to pick away the blatant dead skin off my lips more times than I care to share…

Lip treatments, balms, and glosses are great, but if you are not exfoliating, then peeling is going to happen.

My current favorite lip scrub is one I found on Pinterest from Her Campus. It’s really easy and you only need three ingredients that you can probably find in your kitchen.

DIY Lip Scrub DIY Lip Scrub Add honey. Sugar, honey, and olive oil. Mix. Store in a small container.

Just a tablespoon of sugar, the same amount of honey, and a teaspoon of olive oil. Mix and store. My mom happened to have some salad dressing cups and they were the perfect size!

There’s quite a few different lip scrub concoctions that I’ve come across, but I haven’t tried too many. Do you have one that you swear by?

Yay! It’s my birthday!

Today is my birthday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

I really wanted a party headband (think Ban.do).

Knowing that they have them online at Urban Outfitters, I figured I could go to the store and pick one up.

I was wrong.

Don’t assume.
Ever.
Talk about disappointment…

So, I improvised + made one myself!

What are my plans?

To party like it’s my birthday!

Not really, but whatever I do, I’ll make sure to share it on Insta.
Even if it’s just hanging out on my couch + watching Netflix…

Yay!

DIY Inspiration Board

I didn’t have any major plans this weekend, the only thing I knew I wanted to do was spend some time reevaluating my goals. But, when I sat down to do actually do that, I couldn’t.

It was just too much.

It’s not that I don’t know what I want, or that I can’t see the big picture…

A list was just…boring.

So, I spent the weekend making a Pinterest board. Well, an inspiration board.

DIY Inspiration Board

I printed images from Pinterest, prints that I plan to buy, inspirational images, motivational quotes, and tacked them to a giant cork board. This way as my dreams change and my goals are met, I change switch up what’s on my board.

I also added the Bannerie banner that I got in my Monarch Workshop goodie bag. Come on, YOU GOT THIS…fitting, right? How could I not?!

5 Little Things

Often times, life gets busy. Sometimes, so busy that running errands becomes date night, and that’s just no bueno!

The manfriend and I have made it a point to do little things to show each other that we care.

Love notes. Cards are cool. Cards with money are great. Cards with sentimental messages inside are treasures. No card? No problem! Notes on paper are keepsake-worthy too.

Flowers, just because. Not only do the spruce up the place, it is alway a nice, pleasant surprise to get pretty somethings!

IMG_9344

Writing on the walls. Well technically the mirrors, but you get the idea! I love this because with chalk markers, it’s another way to communicate that’s super fun and outside of the usual.

IMG_8957

Pillow talk. Making it a point to catch up before bed gives us the a chance to talk about our days and connect one on one.

Back rubs. Massages are one of life’s luxuries that can be a little on the costly side. Not only does this save money, it means even more when exchanging endorphins with the one you love!

Something New: Watercolors + Calligraphy

After Alt Summit, I really wanted to at the very least attempt to get back to the heart of why I started blogging.

Simply put, I like to learn + to want to push myself to try new things.

At Alt Melissa Esplin hosted a DIY booth and shared some pointers about calligraphy. I chatted with Christa of Beatrice Clay and decided that I would redeem my Bing Rewards points for Amazon gift cards, which I used to purchase Modern Calligraphy.

i love you more

Since then, I have been practicing calligraphy and painting with watercolors daily. (The two arts kind of go hand in hand, so I figured why not.)

My work is pretty rough, but since I’m only just starting out, I don’t mind it so much. I find the process rather meditative + thoroughly enjoy it, so it’s totes worth it!

Do you have a summer hobby or have you started learning something new recently? Would love some ideas of what to look into for my next something new!

diy destroyed jeans

Jeans are a wardrobe staple.

Destroyed jeans take a classic look to the next level.

They are also wicked expensive…and I’m broke.

That’s what makes diy so awesome!

Not only are they something fun to try, but that feeling of accomplishment afterwards, makes me feel like I can take on the world. And in these jeans, I can, now that I worked some diy magic on them.

IMG_4515

I found (yes, found) a pair of Vigoss jeans that just happened to be my size. The only thing wrong with them is that they were missing the button.

DIY Destroyed Denim

IMG_4516

I have distressed, ripped, and destroyed all kinds of denim in the past, but they never come out great. So I set my expectations low, by deeming my finds as practice jeans. But the results were far better than I could have hoped for!

Side note: Pay attention and don’t multitask when doing anything with a sharp blade. Sounds obvious, but I sliced my finger pretty badly and there was a lot of blood involved…No bueno!

10 beauty products to swap out for spring

Being in Vermont, this winter has been…long. After yesterday’s weather and looking at the forecast for the week, I think it is safe to say the spring is finally here to stay. Transitioning away from our winter wardrobe is something that those of us with heliophilia, await from the very moment that the leaves start to fall.

I noticed that I don’t really find myself thinking about as much is updating my makeup bag. When I say updating my makeup bag, I don’t mean adding to it…that is a never-ending thing for me that just kind of happens whenever I have money. What I’m referring to is the swapping out of darker, more wintery and sultry makeup for brighter, lighter and fun makeup used in the spring.

DIY: Mini Planters

Me being in line to check out in a drugstore (or any store really) is just bad. While waiting to checkout at CVS, I spotted these cute tiny plants for $2 each.

20140415-095225.jpg

I picked out three and figured I could finally do something with the small leftover candle jars I had.

20140415-095235.jpg

This was super easy and didn’t really take much time at all.  I had also scored a new bench that I’m using as a coffee table, I can’t want to style it using these mini planters. More photos to come!

20140415-095247.jpg

I’ve done other succulent and cacti projects in the past but my green thumb isn’t so green. What plants do you like to decorate with, any recommendations?

DIY: Two-Tone Chairs

This week I decided to tackle another DIY project from Pinterest. I have two old wooden chairs that were strictly for function, rather than aesthetics. I felt rather indifferent towards them, but after an Alt Summit and Better Homes and Gardens webinar session on color, I really wanted to take on something to make my apartment feel more like a reflection of me.

One thing of the many fabulous things that I took away from the session was that pink can be used as a neutral.

I had some left over paint from a Pinterest fail, so after exploring my Pinterest boards, I decided that these chairs had to happen.

20140319-210115.jpg

I am happy with how they turned out, the only thing I’d change is the paint finish (I wish I’d had a glossier paint). But all things considering, for a $0 project, not half bad!
